History of The Family Church
A band of Church of God believers from Cleveland, Tennessee came across the Tennessee River at Blythe’s Ferry and between there and Dayton held a brush arbor meeting. They had great success. Many miracles and healings took place. People came from miles around in wagons, rode on horseback, and some walked for miles. They used whatever method needed to get to where the power of God was being manifested.
The revival did not end, so they decided to build a church building in Dayton, the nearest town. A very humble, small tabernacle was built near the present city school. This was around the year 1914. This served as the church for many years, but in the 1930’s the TVA bought out the location of the church and the church building was moved to Sawyers Hill on West 2nd Avenue. The church continued to grow and be blessed at this location for more than forty years.
